IN THE BEGINNING
It took best-selling award-winning author Wendelin Van Draanen ten years to get a manuscript accepted by a publisher.
And in those ten years she went from being married, to being married with two dogs, to being married with two dogs and two kids. She also had a full-time job teaching school. All while living in a 400 sq ft. house in a bad part of town.
What got her through those ten years was the persistent practice of putting “hope in the mail” -- sending manuscripts to publishers and agents in New York.
“Hope in the mail” became a metaphor for taking the steps, making the call, asking for help, doing whatever it took to get to the next square. Putting hope in the mail created the uplifting feeling that something great could happen.
Inspired by Wendelin’s originating concept, we want to help you follow your dreams, share your story, and find ways to put your own hope in the mail.
